Sensitivity analysis of CORSIM with respect to the process of freeway flow breakdown at bottleneck locations

چکیده
Various microscopic simulation models have been used for studying traffic operations along freeway segments. An important desirable function of these models is their ability to obtain capacity and replicate the breakdown process realistically. The objectives of this paper are to evaluate the capability of a microsimulation model, CORSIM, to replicate the process of breakdown and to perform a sensitivity analysis on driver behavior parameters. The research findings indicate that CORSIM has some strengths and some weaknesses with respect to the breakdown process. Sensitivity analysis shows the different effects of these parameters on the breakdown occurrence and provides recommendations on the application of these parameters to provide a more realistic representation of traffic operations. 2011 Elsevier B.V. Capacity Drop Estimation Based on Stochastic Approach Applied to Tehran-Karaj Freeway
Existence of capacity drop phenomenon, as the difference between pre-queue and queue discharge flow rates, has been one of the controversial concepts of traffic engineering. Several researches have focused on capacity drop existence and also its estimation issues. This paper aims to estimate capacity drop based not only on a comparison between breakdown and queue discharge flow rates, but also ...
متن کاملRamp Metering and Freeway Bottleneck Capacity
This study aims to determine whether ramp meters increase the capacity of active freeway bottlenecks. The traffic flow characteristics at twenty-seven active bottlenecks in the Twin Cities have been studied for seven weeks without ramp metering and seven weeks with ramp metering. A methodology for systematically identifying active freeway bottlenecks in a metropolitan area is proposed, which re...
متن کاملQueuing and Statistical Analysis of Freeway Bottleneck Formation
A modified approach to treat traffic flow parameters (flow, density, and speed) has been introduced in this paper. A queuing analysis has been conducted on traffic flow data on Interstate 94 in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area. A methodology has been developed to calibrate loop detector count data. Corrected flow data has been subjected to analysis using queuing analysis to compute densities...
متن کاملField Applications of Corsim : I - 40 Freeway Design Evaluation , Oklahoma City ,
Simulation of traffic flow is an effective tool for evaluating alternative roadway designs, particularly in congested urban areas. CORSIM, a traffic simulation model with detailed representation of vehicles and their interactions, was used to study the performance of two alternatives for a freeway reconstruction project in Oklahoma City. The simulation identified problem areas in the two freewa...
متن کاملImproving for Drum_Buffer_Rope material flow management with attention to second bottlenecks and free goods in a job shop environment
Drum–Buffer–Rope is a theory of constraints production planning methodology that operates by developing a schedule for the system’s first bottleneck. The first bottleneck is the bottleneck with the highest utilization. In the theory of constraints, any job that is not processed at the first bottleneck is referred to as a free good. Free goods do not use capacity at the first bottleneck, so very...
